Hope

Hope

When husbands & wives create an environment of hope instead of despair in their marriage, Great things happen.

Hope in a marriage can be fragile at times. This is something that I know from personal experience. The environment that was created in our marriage through the interactions that my wife and I had with each other, was at one time, not very hopeful. We were committed to staying with each other, but somehow the disagreements and unresolved conflicts pushed my thoughts to the edge of despair at times. In my opinion, during that time, very little pointed towards hope, and something had to change.

The good part of our marriage was that my wife and I both had the ability to pray and invite God into our marriage. This is what helped us maintain our commitment to one another, coupled with meeting with our pastor for marriage counseling and maintaining a consistent intake of the word of God.

The environment in our marriage didn’t start to see a lot of progress though, until God’s Word got a hold of me and changed how I interacted with my wife. I explain this in more detail in the introduction to our marriage workbook “The Color of Marriage” 15 Principles to Improve Your Marriage.

God started answering specific prayers and gave me specific scriptures to put into action. As I started putting the principles and concepts from the scriptures into action, my wife started to notice a change in the way that I interacted with her. I can truly say that the Word of God changed me and brought our marriage hope instead of despair.

Are you creating an environment of hope or despair, during the interactions that you share with your spouse?

You can be sure that your actions are creating one or the other.

So, the next time you find yourself interacting with your spouse, think about the environment that your actions are creating and make changes when necessary to create hope instead of despair in your marriage. If for whatever reason, you are not able to make changes that create hope in your marriage, you can schedule a marriage counseling session with us to address your concerns and find ways to bring hope instead of despair to your marriage.

Consider the following scriptures –

Ephesians 4:32 “Be kind to one another, tender-hearted, forgiving each other, just as God in Christ also has forgiven you.” (NASB)

Colossians 3:19 “Husbands, love your wives, and be not bitter against them.” (KJV)

Proverbs 12:4 “An excellent wife is the crown of her husband, but she who brings shame is like rottenness in his bones. (ESV)

Proverbs 17:22 “A merry heart doeth good like a medicine: but a broken spirit drieth the bones.” (WEB)

Prayer

Father help me to create an environment in my marriage that says to (enter your spouse’s name) that he/she is valued, wanted, needed, respected, and loved. Help me to be thoughtful of the words that come out of my mouth and the actions that I take. Also, help me to guard my heart, so that the wickedness of this life will not corrupt it. Thank you Father, in Jesus name, amen.
